Home Sweet Home
Home Sweet Home is a 2D platform exploration game developed with Game Maker. Inspired by the rats of New York City, the main character is a small mouse trying to find his way home across the city.
Design Process
The project's prototype is derived from the Intro to Game Development course at New York University. One day, I was waiting for the train and gathering ideas, and a rat dashed over the tracks. Suddenly, I thought, “Could I create a game with a rat as the main character?”
And Home Sweet Home formed. The game's opening scene is in a sewer, and I found usable sound effects online and added to improve the scene's mood. To progress the game, the protagonist mouse has to search, gather key objects, and speak with NPCs. The title originates from the protagonist meeting his parents in a meadow at the end of the game. In general, I want to portray a peaceful environment.
